Summary:
Dr. Anthony Chambers meets with Lou for an individual session as part of the four-session evaluation model for couples therapy. He describes the purpose of the session and sets expectations that information will be shared in the subsequent joint couple sessions. Dr. Chambers reviews the couple's concern of infidelity discussed in the joint first session and explores Lou's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors throughout his engagement in infidelity. They discuss Lou's childhood experiences of witnessing infidelity as normalized behavior. They then explore Lou's experience of his wife discovering his affair. Dr. Chambers helps Lou articulate his feelings within the marriage, particularly related to sexual intimacy and finances. They discuss the couple's relationship dynamic and big changes such as anticipating becoming empty nesters. Dr. Chambers then transitions to assessing Lou's mental and physical health history and family background. After gaining a deeper understanding of Lou's childhood experiences, Dr. Chambers assesses Lou's level of commitment in his marriage and his vision for a successful couples therapy experience. He then expresses appreciation for Lou's openness and ends the session with the expectation of meeting again for a joint couples session. The client in this video is portrayed by an actor on the basis of a composite of cases
