Summary:
In this first of several sessions, G. Alan Marlatt meets with a middle-aged client who had a long history of drug abuse, but who has been in recovery and off of drugs and alcohol for 7 years. Marlatt listens to the client as he gives his history of drug abuse and the many attempts to recover over the years, and asks the client specific questions about his motivations for using and quitting drugs and alcohol. Marlatt checks on the client's current coping behavior, support mechanisms, and the ways he handles trigger situations, and praises the client for the progress he has made over the course of his life
