Summary:
The client is in a Twelve-Step Program of recovery--with 28 months clean and sober--after many years of alcoholism and drug abuse. He spends the entire session giving his personal "history" of disordered "drinking and drugging," which began on the streets of Chicago's South Side, when he began drinking, using drugs, and selling drugs to gain affirmation that his emotionally distant father could not provide. By his 20s, the progression of addiction led the client to sell--and use most of his own supply of--crack cocaine. The "vicious circle" of a progressively increasing tolerance led the client into various criminal acts to support his habit, and he recounts his various encounters with the police and state prisons
