Summary:
Ann Mary Kearney-Cooke talks with a young woman struggling to lose weight. She tends to eat when bored or sad, and sees food as a comfort. In addition, she recently moved across country and has not yet made many friends. She thinks she needs to lose about 50 pounds, but would like to lose about 20 pounds as a more realistic goal. Kearney-Cooke asks the client what she thinks are the reason for her being overweight, such as eating habits, exercise habits, and genetics. Kearney-Cooke makes several suggestions to help her get going with her weight loss, including developing a structure around eating; eating in a more "mindful" way by focusing only on her food during mealtimes; and finding other ways to meet her needs besides food. Kearney-Cooke also encourages the client to see positive traits in herself that she could use to help her lose weight and to understand how her weight may be holding her back in other areas of her life
