Summary:
Mark R. McMinn uses a relational approach to cognitive therapy from a Christian perspective. He helps clients process their thoughts and feelings and develop a plan to deal with conflict in a way that reflects their spiritual beliefs and moral principles. McMinn works with an African American female client who is a social services counselor. The client presents a conflict that has arisen in her volunteer work at her church in dealing with domestic violence victims who are abused by their husbands or significant others who are also spiritual leaders in the church, who justify their behavior through passages in the bible taken out of context. The client searches for a faith-based resource, such as scriptures in the bible, to present to the domestic abuse victims to help them break the cycle of violence. McMinn helps her develop strategies she can use to empower the victims
