- Summary:
- The parents of four children--a ten-year old and eight-year old triplets--are concerned that they have grown apart after a series of life challenges and stressors. They describe feelings of anger toward each other and a lack of intimacy. In this session, the therapist draws upon the couple's description of their early close and loving relationship. He encourages them to look back on those strengths and consider how they might "re-story" their relationship by recreating what brought them together originally. Loss of identity during the marriage emerges as a theme for both partners and the therapist encourages each partner to recall both their own and their partner's individual strengths. He proposes inviting to the next session a mutual friend who can testify as to what each partner was like while they were still single and in their early days together
