Summary:
Dr. Susan M. McCurry conducts a contextual therapy session with a woman who is coping with moving her parents to an assisted living facility since she could no longer be their full-time caregiver. In the beginning of the session Dr. McCurry inquires about the events that led up to the decision to move her parents, highlighting the factors that made the move necessary. Together, Dr. McCurry and the client explore the guilt the client feels for making this decision. In order to reassure the client that she is serving as the best caregiver she can possibly be, Dr. McCurry restates the aspects of the situation that are beneficial for her parents, such as moving them into the same facility so they can be together, taking careful consideration of what facility would be best for them, and continuing to visit them. During the final portion of the session, Dr. McCurry and the client discuss the ways the client is engaging in self-care. Additionally, they discuss the other family members' roles in helping the situation. Through Dr. McCurry's care and reassurance, the client is able to feel more secure about her decision to move her parents as well as hopeful that she will be able to focus more on her own well-being
