- Summary:
- Robert A. Neimeyer counsels a young woman who is grieving the loss of her mother to cancer. The client describes her experiences since her mother died over a year ago, which have included bouts of depression and anxiety. She indicates that after joining a grief support group and counseling, she has been better able to accept her mother's death but that she still experiences feelings of extreme loss. Neimeyer helps the client to examine her recent experiences, behaviors, and relationships in such a way that their positive significance becomes clearer and she is able to attach meaning to them. In this way, the client becomes better able to honor her mother's memory in her current life and continue the legacy that she feels her mother passed on to her
