- Summary:
- Using a personality-guided relationaly psychotherapy approach, Jeffrey J. Magnavita works with a female client in her late teens experiencing major depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder resulting from child abuse and ongoing instability and chaos in her life. During this fourth session, Magnavita uses the Subjective Unit of Distress Scale to monitor the client's level of anxiety. Magnavita continues to work with the client on her issues with emotional incongruence and encourages her to better integrate her inward emotions with her outward expressions. He attempts to get the client to explore her suppressed anger and encounters resistance. He guides the client through this emotional block by explaining that abuse victims often equate anger with violence while reinforcing the need for a safe outlet of expression
