- Summary:
- In this sixth and final session, Dr. Amy Wenzel uses cognitive behavior therapy to work with a 24-year-old man who is struggling with anxiety and mild depression, both of which are affecting his academic performance and behavior at work. The client identifies lingering anxiety associated with future transitions in his life, and works with Dr. Wenzel to construct specific goals to cope with those challenges. After reviewing the client's success log from the previous week, they reflect back on the original treatment goals (id est, overcoming anxiety and avoidance, reducing depressive symptoms) and evaluate his progress in relation to these goals. Finally, Dr. Wenzel works with the client to develop a relapse prevention plan for the future. They collaboratively identify possible triggers the client might encounter that could elevate his anxiety or depression, as well as warning signs for automatic thought patterns and maladaptive behavior (e.g., avoidance), and coping strategies (e.g., thought modification, success log, et cetera) that he could use
