- Summary:
- In this first session of six, Pamela A. Hays works with an African American mother in her late 20s who recently separated with her husband and moved back in with her parents while attending school and working full time. The client originally presents with stress related to family relationships due to earlier childhood sexual abuse. Using a multicultural framework, Hays assesses for and later summarizes the client's sources of support and stress. Accordingly, Hays and the client discuss the client's past history of sexual abuse by her biological father, which has caused strain in her relationships with her mother and brother. Lastly, Hays briefly outlines her approach to therapy and then collaboratively creates a realistic and feasible homework assignment with the client that will be discussed in the subsequent session
