Summary:
In this second session of six, Pamela A. Hays works with an African American mother in her late 20s who recently separated with her husband and moved back in with her parents while attending school and working full time. The client originally presented in the initial session with stress related to family relationships due to earlier childhood sexual abuse. At the beginning of this session, Hays checks in with the client on the homework assignment from the previous session. Summarizing content from the first session, Hays and the client identify a focus for the present session. Through questioning, Hays learns that the client has recently been in a physical altercation with her brother. Hays relates this incident to stressors and how it relates to physical and physiological stress. After introducing and explaining instructions, Hays invites the client to participate in a brief mindfulness focusing exercise. Finally, Hays and the client debrief the exercise, and the client suggests applying mindfulness as a homework assignment
