- Summary:
- In this third session of six, Pamela A. Hays works with an African American mother in her late 20s who recently separated with her husband and moved back in with her parents while attending school and working full time. The client originally presented in the initial session with stress related to family relationships due to earlier childhood sexual abuse. After checking in with homework, Hays focuses the session on the client's goals for therapy from the initial session. Hays reinforces the client's strengths and the client's ability to generalize mindfulness and self-care in her daily life. Relating content from previous sessions, Hays concentrates on tension between the client's difficulty with communicating needs in her relationships and the client's need to maintain her identity of being the strong one in her family. Next, Hays asks the client to determine what next steps she wants to take towards well-being and self-care. Collaboratively, the two generate a feasible homework assignment for the client
