- Summary:
- "Applying an emotion-focused therapy approach for couples, Dr. Rhonda N. Goldman works with a young adult African American couple on their differing conflict management styles. First, Goldman gathers important information to understand the relationship between the two. Next, Goldman invites the recently engaged couple to share what they hope to work on, allowing each person to share; both want to work on communication style. More specifically, the couple has different conflict management styles, and consequently, the two are prone to arguing and then becoming hurt. Throughout the session, Goldman has the couple share multiple incidents that illustrate the issues. Meanwhile, Goldman aids the two in identifying, clarifying, communicating, and making sense of the feelings that occurred in the incidents. Specifically, Goldman guides the couple in exploring their negative emotions and interactional states. At the end of session, Goldman summarizes her understanding and suggests to the couple a new way to interact"
