Summary:
"Dr. Martin Antony works with a twenty-one-year-old, African-American male client who has been suffering from depression since the age of twelve. In the first half of the session, Antony uses an assessment interview to collect information about the client's low mood, lack of concentration, inability to fall asleep, irritability, maladaptive thoughts, and personal and professional life. The client expresses particular concerns about his relationship status, financial success, and familial relationships, suggesting that he should be more independent and further along in obtaining his goals. Antony educates the client about cognitive behavior therapy, emphasizing that the way we interpret situations strongly influences how we feel in those situations. When prompted for an example about a negative belief, the client discloses a painful relationship with his father that has contributed to his lack of trust in all relationships. Antony encourages the client to question his thoughts by looking for evidence to support or negate them and trying to understand them from a different perspective"
