Summary:
"Integrating multimodal and gender-based psychotherapeutic approaches, Dr. Andrew P. Smiler works with a 17-year-old African-American male who wishes to learn more about himself and who presents with mild adjustment and procrastination issues. After outlining the session, Dr. Smiler builds rapport by learning about the client from a holistic perspective, including the client's interests, strengths, passions, relationships, school, and family. The client reports an earlier history of maladaptive experiences and then shares his recent positive transformation of his behavior and outlook on life. Dr. Smiler reinforces the client's positive qualities, motivations, values, and behaviors. At the end of the session, the client identified as an adolescent who "gives" in his relationships, and Dr. Smiler offers suggestions for the client to self-care"
