- Summary:
- In this session, Dr. Ellen Frank works with a client, a Black man in his 70s, who presents with a history of depression, which has increased with the death of his mother. Frank conducts an interpersonal inventory by exploring the client's important relationships, with a focus on his close bond with his mother. Frank explores both the positive aspects and difficulties in his relationship with his mother. Frank also explores conflicts that arose in the client's marital relationships as a result of his close relationship with his mother, and how the client managed these difficulties. Together, they identify the needs met by the client's relationship with his mother and discuss the loneliness he experienced in the wake of her death. At the conclusion of the session, they discuss the ways in which the client maintains a connection with his mother in the present and how his depression has improved as a result
