Summary:
In this second of four sessions, applying an accelerated experiential dynamic psychotherapy approach, Dr. Diana Fosha works with a young adult White heterosexual male who is experiencing existential and relational distress. After sharing his reflections since the previous session, the two discuss the patient's sexuality, previous romantic relationships, and professional and personal life in relation to his presenting issue. Using a series of psychotherapeutic techniques including emotional focusing, immediacy, feedback, challenges, free association and silence, Fosha guides the patient in exploring his deep belief of being a burden on others and experiences of existential suffering. Using the therapist-patient relationship, Fosha guides the patient to pause, slow down, and fully experience his emotions and bodily sensations during their interactions in session. At the conclusion of the session, Fosha elicits feedback from the patient and assigns homework
