Summary:
"In this session, Dr. Ellen A. Dornelas demonstrates cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) with an 18-year-old female client suffering from psychological distress associated with several physical health issues. The client reports two "cancer scare" experiences in high school in which she was hospitalized for an extended period of time, current issues sleeping, heightened worry/anxiety, and a history of relationship issues in her family. Dr. Dornelas and the client also discuss her concerns related to mood swings, and recent diagnoses of anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, and PTSD (due to several concussions sustained during high school wrestling). The client discusses her current and past relationships with her parents and twin sister, as well as her fears that she will contract ovarian cancer and lose her ability to have children. Dr. Dornelas helps the client explore her goals for therapy and sources of stress in her life, as well as her difficulties in separating from her parents upon starting college. Near the end of the session, Dr. Dornelas discusses several of the client's strengths, and encourages her to continue working with mental health providers (including her current therapist and psychiatrist) on a regular basis"
