Summary:
Douglas K. Snyder works with a young couple who have recently married and are having problems dealing with conflict. He asks each to describe the same upsetting incident and accompanying feelings. Snyder helps the man see how his reaction to his partner relate to verbal abuse from his father and to the grief he experienced as an adolescent when his father passed away. Snyder helps the woman understand how her reactions to conflict relate to her lack of trust in others and her feelings of isolation that developed when she moved to a new country. Snyder helps them understand how these past experiences prevent them from communicating well and how this understanding will help them relate to each other in a more empathic and loving way
