- Summary:
- The client, a 52 year-old woman, has been the primary caregiver for her parents for years. Her father recently died, and she is struggling with the memories of emotional, physical, and verbal abuse by him. Her boyfriend of nine years is emotionally unavailable and verbally abusive in a way that reminds her of her father. This session focuses on the client's entrenched cycle of relationships with emotionally unavailable men, and the difficulty of shifting that cycle no matter what is said in therapy. Dr. Jeremy D. Safran suggests that he may be pursuing a course that is not what the client requested when he tries to help her find a way to terminate the relationship. Instead he offers to help her find a way to feel better in the relationship the way it is
