- Summary:
- Clinical psychologist Dr. Gordon Wheeler conducts an initial psychotherapy session with a young adult male Caucasian client. The client presents with relationship and intimacy concerns following the termination of a romantic relationship. Dr. Wheeler uses an experiential approach in which he draws on his own thoughts and feelings to develop an empathic connection with the client and reflect back his observations. The therapist facilitates the client's process of reflection on his previous relationships and encourages the client's expression and acceptance of his emotional experience. Through the therapeutic relationship, the therapist builds the client's capacity for intimacy and opens possibilities for transfering this enhanced capacity to his romantic relationships
