- Summary:
- Jeffrey E. Young demonstrates schema therapy with a young woman who presents with anxiety and feelings of anger, and who also suffers from depression. The client feels anxious and trapped because she feels the need to meet the expectations of others, particularly those close to her. In the session, it becomes apparent that her anger derives from the fact that people are not meeting her needs, whereas she always tries to please others. Young talks with the client about her patterns of relating, then goes through a series of role playing exercises, first playing the role of the client's husband, then having the client play the role of her husband. Finally, Young guides the client through a series of imagined conversations between her husband and her family members
