Summary:
Hurvin Anderson : Salon Paintings takes it title from the first exhibition to survey Anderson's Barbershop series to date, spanning the early paintings and related studies he made in 2006 to major new works presented for the first time with which the series now culminates. It brings together previously unseen sketches and archival material alongside Anderson's own reflections on this extraordinary body of work published for the first time. Hurvin Anderson (b. 1965, United Kingdom) is one of the most captivating painters working today. The Barbershop is a subject that Anderson has returned to throughout his career, as a point of connection to Caribbean culture. He has said that 'In repeating the image, deconstructing it and putting it back together again, the series has also become a meditative exploration of painting itself.'
