Summary:
One of opera's ultimate diva showcases, Umberto Giordano's Fedora has all the hallmarks of a great verismo tragedy: In it, a Russian princess vows to avenge the murder of her betrothed, only to fall desperately in love with the man who killed him. It's a tale packed with oversized emotions, fraught encounters, and unexpected plot twists, and one which relies heavily on the leading lady taking on its title role. During the 2022-23 season, soprano Sonya Yoncheva headlined the company's first performances of the opera in 25 years, starring in a sumptuous new production by director David McVicar. In this Live in HD presentation, Yoncheva shares the stage with tenor Piotr Beczała as the ardent Count Loris Ipanoff, with Marco Armiliato, a veteran of nearly 500 Met performances, conducting a cast that also features soprano Rosa Feola as Countess Olga and baritone Lucas Meachem as the French diplomat De Siriex.
