- Summary:
- "The Festschrift presents a collection of studies that reflect the Odyssean breadth of István Perczel's scholarship, which stretches from the history of philosophy and the world of Byzantium to Syriac and Indian studies. The volume consists of twenty-five articles written by colleagues and former students and is divided into five sections. The first two sections revolve around the St Thomas Christians of India and other Christian cultures from across Eurasia. The other three parts provide new sources from and discussions about Byzantium, offer novel approaches to Ps-Dionysius the Aeropagite, and present miscellaneous case studies on late antique and medieval philosophy. The anthology is a testimony to the diversity of Prof. Perczel's intellectual pursuits and, hence, scholarly contacts and collaborations, which defy clear temporal and spatial boundaries. The book is of interest to students and scholars alike who study the multilingual and transregional scope of Christian thought and spirituality in its cultural, historical, philological, philosophical, and theological dimensions. An introduction, tabula gratulatoria, bibliography of the honorand's publications, and index complement the volume."-- Publisher's website.
