Includes material related to the professional practice of architect Louis Magaziner, and his son Henry J. Magaziner. Includes the works of numerous corporate affilications and architectural associates with which they practice, separately or together, 1902-1972.
Drawings and photomechanical reproductions of various buildings including Design for altering the Spruce St. Baptist Church, John C. Winston Residence, E. Penn St., Germantown, Philadelphia, Pa., Jewish Hospital, Mt. Sinai Hospital, several synagogues, banks, theaters, and schools, and Public school, Sandy & Walnut Sts., Norristown, Pa.
This record is parent to x VIM records for architectural project drawings from the professional practice of architect Louis Magaziner, and continuing with the work of his son, Henry J. Magaziner. Encompassed here are works from numerous firms with which the Magaziners have associated, including Louis Magaziner firms: Magaziner & Potter (ca. 1907-1917), Magaziner and Eberhard (ca. 1918-1922) Magaziner, Eberhard and Harris (1923-1928), Louis Magaziner alone (ca. 1930-1936 or 1948?), and Louis & Henry Magaziner (ca. 1936-1956, name continued by Henry 1956-1962). Louis Magaziner is also known to have associated with Herman Polss (ca. 1947-1950) and with Edwin Silverman (ca. 1949-1951) Drawings from the firm of Newman & Harris are included, for whom Louis Magaziner worked as head draftsman & designer, ca. 1906-1910, and for Cope & Stewardson, where Magainzer worked ca. 1904-1906, are also included. The well known architect, Louis I. Kahn, is known to have worked with Magaziner, and his initials can be seen on some of the drawings. One record includes the names Magaziner, Eberhard & L.I. Kahn.

Henry Magaziner continued working under his father's name after Louis death in 1956, until 1962-1964 when he formed Magaziner Architects. This was followed by Magaziner & DiGiorgio (ca. 1963-1970) and Magaziner, DiGiorgio & Kirkbride (ca. 1970-1972). Henry Magaziner continues to practice in the Philadelphia area. His works after 1972 are not yet represented in this collection.
Also included in this collection are works from other Philadelphia area architects. The Magaziner's may have been associated with the architects of these projects, or these may be reference drawings for building where the Magaziners did later alterations & additions.
