Summary:

A partially skeletal remains was discovered at Mt. Takakura in Kitakyushu City. Michiru Iizuka, who works as a writer for a local town magazine, learns of the news from her former boss and weekly magazine editor Sojiro Domoto. What appeared to be a bouquet of flowers was buried with the body, and although the cause of death was unknown, there were no major injuries. Police said they believe the body was buried by someone who could not afford to bury it. A note was found in the pocket of the corpse's clothing. The partially readable paper said, ``Thank you, but I'm sorry.'' Michiru' was written on it. Michiru declines Sojiro's request to write an article about the background of the corpse. Michiru has a history of quitting her job as a weekly magazine reporter after writing an article about a certain incident. Her name is Michiru, just like hers, and she has admired her job as a reporter since middle school and has continued to work hard for it. Is it okay for me to just run away from everything? Michiru decided to pursue this case.

北九州市の高蔵山で一部が白骨化した遺体が発見された。地元のタウン誌でライターとして働く飯塚みちるは、元上司で週刊誌編集者の堂本宗次郎の連絡でそのニュースを知る。遺体と一緒に花束らしきものが埋めれられており、死因は不明だが大きな外傷はなかった。警察は、遺体を埋葬するお金のない者が埋めたのではないかと考えているという。遺体の着衣のポケットの中には、メモが入っていた。部分的に読めるその紙には『ありがとう、ごめんね。みちる』と書かれていた。遺体の背景を追って記事にできないかという宗次郎の依頼を、みちるは断る。みちるには、ある事件の記事を書いたことがきっかけで、週刊誌の記者を辞めた過去があった。自分と同じ「みちる」という名前、中学生のころから憧れ、頑張り続けた記者の仕事。すべてから逃げたままの自分でいいのか。みちるは、この事件を追うことを決めた──。
