Summary:
The unit of currency in Mexico is the peso, which is equivalent to 100 centavos. Notes are available in denominations of 20, 50, 100, 200, and 500 pesos, and coins are available in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, and 20 pesos. Coins worth 10, 20, and 50 centavos are also available. The symbol for the peso [dollar] is similar to the symbol for the US dollar. This can sometimes be confusing, as dollars and pesos do not have equivalent values. Review where to change money and where you can use credit cards and traveler's checks.
