- Summary:
- Once a small fishing village on the Rhine, Dusseldorf has the second-largest stock exchange in Germany and has become the banking and commercial center for the industrial region of the Ruhr. Consequently, the city has attracted a sizable international community. Many expatriate Japanese, for instance, live in Dusseldorf in Little Tokyo, the largest Japanese community in Germany. For those more interested in fashion than in banking, Dusseldorf hosts the largest international fashion fair in the world. The Old Town, Altstadt, is a lively entertainment center with numerous bars, clubs, and restaurants, all within a tiny one-kilometer area.
