Saudi Arabia is a relatively young country, less than a century old. Despite the political, economic, and cultural forces that are changing the nation's mindset, three key characteristics continue to define the nation. First, Saudi is the crucible of Islam, and no other nation shares its unique sacred heritage. Second, Saudi is one of the few countries in the world that is named after its ruling family, which controls all the power. Third, Saudi is experiencing massive change as it pursues a national development strategy called Vision 2030, which describes ambitious plans for economic and societal transformation.
