Summary:
Mexicans have a good sense of humor and a real knack for enjoying life. They love to tease, play language games, and laugh at other people's mistakes - or ingenuity. Referring to each other by funny nicknames is a playful Mexican custom. Learn more about how locals may use playful expressions to refer to one another. For example, family members may refer to boyfriends and girlfriends as gordo or gorda, which means 'fatty', although it's said without the slightest touch of meanness. A thin person is sometimes called flaca, which can also be said in a warm way.
