- Summary:
- Mexicans are usually warm and gentle toward strangers, including foreigners. They'll sometimes stare at them, especially if the foreigners don't look like Americans, whom they're used to seeing. Curiosity and wonder quickly vanish once the stranger attempts to communicate in a friendly manner - sometimes all one needs to do is smile. Once you know a few Spanish salutations and a few phrases so you can ask directions or request information, you're on your way to communicating with any Mexican citizen. Mexico inherited a caste system from its three hundred years of Spanish rule, and Mexicans are still sensitive to racial differences. Learn more about how Mexicans view one another and foreigners.
