- The goal of this Rapid Response report was to identify evidence pertinent to the efficacy of dental evaluation prior to the insertion of certain kinds of medical devices used to treat cardiovascular conditions. We reviewed peer-reviewed literature and professional guidelines from the last 50 years to identify research and standards of practice on the need for and effectiveness of dental screening and pretreatment prior to the insertion of cardiovascular devices.
