- 1899年8月15日在上海创刊, 译名为The China and Farleigh Necessary News, 旬刊, 中外大事报馆出版. 1899年10月5日出版了第六册后停刊. 《中外大事报》属于中外政治时事刊物, 是研究中国近现代历史, 政治等重要资料. 该刊总经理朱凤衔, 副经理高翔, 主要栏目有论说, 谕旨恭录, 摺件摘要, 训政实录, 各国近事, 各埠近事, 外论汇译, 路透汇电, 禀件条约, 海国丛谈等. 《中外大事报》是晚清时期的重要刊物, 有维新思想倾向, 以报道国内外新闻为主的报刊, 但对慈僖表示恭顺. 该报的前身是戊戌年间在广州出版的《广智报》, 原为周报, 由博闻报馆印刷出版. 《论说:中外大事报缘起》: ... 于是有志之士曰:抚吾头可断乎, 吾心可昧乎, 视吾舌犹存乎, 吾目可默乎? 吾之意, 若人人方便, 旦昼之面目, 如其天良发露之时焉, 如其夜气清明之时焉, 则且延爱新亿年. 祖宗之意, 无弗善体则且成, 皇帝孝治骨肉之间, 无弗善处则且弃私忿勇公斗, 同室之戈, 可以弗操则且泯, 猜嫌捐忌讳谤言之律可以弗设, 守旧者则且兴廉让以相讽, 维新者则且尽忠谠以相成, 中立者则且竭心以相周旋. 国是修民义尽, 内患夷外侮息中国之世劫, 遂以已中国之世劫, 遂以已有志之士, 复贸贸然以为言发, 吾目举天下守旧维新中立四万人皆已应之, 皆已应之欤. 修国是尽民义, 夷内患息外侮之策, 弗闻久矣, 不可不及时载记焉, 于是中外大事之报作.
