Summary:
Quem eram esses comerciantes? -- From publisher.
The expansion of livestock farming into the hinterlands and the discovery of gold at the turn of the 17th to the 18th century led to greater commercial interaction between the captaincies of Brazil and an intensification of the slave trade. Once African enslaved people arrived at the ports of the Northern Captaincies, some remained on the coast while others were sold either for work in livestock farming or in the mines, establishing an internal market circuit - which was linked to the external market - for enslaved people. In this context, various merchants were involved. Who were these merchants? What were their interests and trade networks? How did voyages take place, and in what ways were enslaved people bought and sold? Seeking to answer these questions, the book demonstrates the breadth and complexity of this trade, which was one of the most important for the functioning of the colony and the formation of Brazil. -- From publisher.
