[Flashed title] "OPEN ORDER DRILL. The soldier afloat has a special way of carrying out 'open order drill' and the liveliness of the evolutions is surprising considering these men were civilians only a few months ago". LS of soldiers marching toward the camera on a patchily grassed parade ground (5). Jump-shot to the same view, soldiers now seen side on, marching right. They separate from close ranks and all drop to rest on one knee. They rejoin each other before manoeuvring back to the one knee position (29). The same procedure is repeated, filmed from the soldiers' right (46). LS from in front of the soldiers, moving toward the camera. A sergeant-major figure walks amongst the men. All lay flat on their stomachs, leaving the sergeant-major standing in the middle.
