Summary:
This film on poliomyelitis, intended primarily for general practitioners. An introductory passage gives a brief history of polio epidemics in Britain up to the exceptional outbreak of 1947. The various forms of the disease are classified, and signs and symptoms and methods of diagnosis are gone into considerable detail, with general points on prevention of spread by infection, and further details on subsequent management of cases in hospital. A number of examples of both adult and child patients are included. The film ends with a sequence on the rehabilitation of patients and the process of getting them back to work.
