- Summary:
- Stereotypes are known to take many forms and carry serious implications for individual workers and entire organizations today. This entry reviews the stereotype content model, which explores the origins of several stereotypes and associated reactions. It is argued that stereotypes are grounded in perceptions of competence and warmth and that favorable perceptions on one dimension are accompanied by less favorable perceptions on the other dimension. This, in turn, produces mixed emotions. The final section builds on this description by pointing out ways to apply this theory in industry today
