In a May 4, 1976 letter to the Athenaeum, letterhead "Banwell, Armentrout & Divvens, architects", J.S. Armentrout, Jr. offers the drawings to the Athenaeum, describing himself as the "last surviving member of the firm", which had its roots in the office of Davis & Dunlap (1919-1924, 1930-1932?). All projects are located in Pennsylvania, primarily in the Philadelphia area.
