Frontispiece portrait plate is of Milton Dictating to his Daughters engraved by Dalziel with protective tissue guard. Title page has single black rule and "A New Edition, carefully Revised" in gothic font.

Preface by Theodore Alois Buckley, London 1853.
Earlier editions had "To Which is Prefixed a Biographical Notice" on title page and later editions have different frontispiece illustration (Satan cast out of heaven).
Front cover richly decorated in embossed black and gilt in floral motif, with Milton's name in embossed letters against a gilt background in center, a small harp at top and centralized floral motif at bottom with "Illustrated" in small embossed lettering beneath. Brown endpapers and all edges gilt.

PR3551.N3 1874 Milton Collection copy presented to the Penn Libraries by Joseph A. Wittreich in honor of Stuart A. Curran, 2021 has front cover and spine detached from text. Text has penciled ms. annotations. Shipping list from ElevenEleven Books laid in.
