"A detailed study of the recent economic crises—triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic or the war in Ukraine—which have impacted every aspect of society, alongside a legal analysis of the legislative measures adopted within the sphere of Private Law in both Spain and Europe. Certain economic sectors have been particularly hard hit; notable among these are tourism and hospitality, transport, retail, and all those sectors dependent on social interaction and the movement of people. Furthermore, these crises have disproportionately affected specific groups—such as members of ethnic minorities—thereby underscoring the urgent need to address social and economic inequalities. The recent economic crises, precipitated by the COVID-19 pandemic or the war in Ukraine, have impacted every facet of society. Certain economic sectors have suffered particularly severe blows—most notably those dependent on social interaction and the movement of people. Moreover, these crises have disproportionately affected specific groups—such as members of ethnic minorities—thereby highlighting the imperative to tackle social and economic inequalities. The impact of these crises on Europe has been profoundly negative, affecting public health as well as the economic and social spheres. Since the onset of these crises, European Union (EU) leaders have worked collaboratively to coordinate responses and support affected nations, addressing the situation through various means: EU recovery funds; the European Central Bank’s Pandemic Emergency Purchase Programme; support initiatives for businesses and workers; the coordination of public health measures and restrictions; and mass vaccination campaigns. This edited volume provides a legal analysis of the legislative measures—specifically within the realm of Private Law—that were adopted in Spain and across Europe in response to these economic crises, as well as the corresponding jurisprudential interpretations. The study examines contractual relations, financial deferrals, guarantees, and support measures designed to aid workers, consumers, families, and vulnerable groups, alongside other measures implemented to safeguard businesses and citizens. Furthermore, the effectiveness of these measures is discussed, and areas are identified where the legislative response needs improvement, in order to react proactively to future economic crises." -- Publisher (translated)
