Summary:
In order for measures of health facility performance to influence major strategic decision-making, linkages between health service strategies and the deployment of human, technological, financial and physical resources need to be more clearly understood. The quantity of data necessary for achieving this goal is larger than most facility planning activities have handled. It also goes beyond spatial and architectural descriptions of space, spanning several disciplines that, historically, have been seen as unrelated to the deployment of facility resources. The paper discusses two of the major data sets needed to build a comprehensive picture of health facility performance. The results of using such data sets in an executive-level information system have lead to significant capital savings
