- Summary:
- Archivo imperfecto is a collaborative project of photographic and theoretical-critical creation that brings together 92 photographs (most of them unpublished) by Paz Errázuriz from the period of the dictatorship together with an essay written by Ángeles Donoso Macaya. The book presents and contextualizes a significant corpus for the historiography of the expanding field of photography at the local level and contributes, from a feminist lens, to the reflection on the visual and photographic memory of the period of the dictatorship in Chile. The situated nature of the photos invites the writer to reflect on Paz Errázuriz's place in the cultural field. The text, echoing what several feminist thinkers and writers have already said, attempts to dismantle the patriarchal substratum that underlies the concept of the "author photographer" and the heroic narrative that usually places (male) photographers at the center of the action (marches, rallies, etc.) to explore, from a feminist perspective, the photographic field of the period of the dictatorship. Imperfect Archive places special emphasis on the activism carried out by women's and feminist groups, as well as the question of the different experiences and ways of life of women who lived during this time.
