- Summary:
- Clotheslines tells the (historical) story of women's work in the home as it relates to the washing and drying of clothes and other regularly necessary items. It makes use of the image of clotheslines in their many manifestations as emblematic of the unseen work of women. These images of sheets billowing and clothes dancing on the line become a window in on the pain, drudgery and isolation of taking care of the family's washing but also the wisdom, folklore, craft, humor and creativity that made it bearable
