Archival caption: The pleasure boat Marchioness sank after being hit by the dredger Bowbelle on the River Thames in the early hours of 20th August 1989. The 131 people on board including crew and waiters, were attending a private party to celebrate the 26th birthday of Antonio de Vasconcellos. 51 people were killed in the disaster. Picture shows: Police boats by the wrecked Marchioness boat on the River Thames. 22nd August 1989.
