Archival caption: Bob Geldof of the Boomtown Rats pop group, pictured wearing a headband during a concert in Tokyo, Japan. May 1980 After having a successful career with the Irish rock/punk outfit the Boomtown Rats Geldof launched his solo career. In 1984 he penned the hit "Do They Know It's Christmas?" with Midge Ure. The song remains one of the biggest selling of all time and formed the basis for the Live Aid concerts, organised by Geldof himself. As well as continuing to focus on the plight of the third world, Geldof has proven himself a successful businessman and self publicist.
