Archival caption: An exhausted policeman rests on the curb as a fire burns brightly behind him after race riots erupted in Southall, West London. The trouble started when coachloads of skinheads chanting National Front slogans and handing out leaflets in the area. The 200 strong mob then began smashing shop windows and attacking local people provoking a riot by about 1000 Asian youths who left their home to fight back. 6th July 1981.
