Archival caption: A giant of a man with a serious message for schoolchildren...the Green Cross man visited schools in Mid-Warwickshire to encourage the understanding and use of the Green Cross Code. Weighing nineteen stones and standing 6ft. 6in. tall, the Green Cross man - alias David Prowse, who appeared as villain Darth Vader in the popular "Star Wars" films - put the message across in an enjoyable way. In this instance, his audience were the staff and children of St Joseph's R.C. Combined School at Whitnash, near Leamington. 28th May 1982.
