- Summary:
- The introduction of the Macintosh computer in 1984 changed the field of personal computers forever. Apple computers had been known for their relative ease of use, but the Macintosh took "user friendliness" to a new level as it replaced arcane commands and meaningless acronyms with self-explanatory icons. With this new "graphical user interface," computer files looked like file folders and the user removed unwanted items by simply "dragging" them to an icon of a trash can.
